As residents of Stanwell Moor, we live in the shadow of Heathrow. Now, the airport is pushing forward once again with its plans for expansion. Heathrow has announced its upcoming eight-week public consultation, running from 27 October to 22 December 2026.
This is a critical moment for our community. The proposed developments threaten to change the face of our village forever. Here is a breakdown of what this means for Stanwell Moor, why you must have your say, and what we need to demand.
A) What the Expansion is About
The core of the expansion is the construction of a third runway (the north-west runway). However, for Stanwell Moor, it brings massive, permanent infrastructure projects right to our doorsteps, including:
- Unprecedented Traffic Infrastructure: Plans for a super car park near Stanwell Moor Road, a six-lane dual carriageway within metres of some of our closest homes and a proposed move of the M25. These will all cause long term disruption to our journeys in and out of the village.
- A 24/7 Construction Site: Rerouting the M25, diverting local rivers, and building new commercial truck compounds and water-treatment facilities directly on our surrounding green belt.
- More Flights, More Noise: Hundreds of extra flights taking off and landing over our village daily, resulting in “new noise” that will severely disrupt our daily lives.
B) What the Consultation is About
Before Heathrow can officially apply for planning permission to build the third runway, they are legally required to consult the public.
This upcoming consultation (running from late October to late December 2026) is your chance to review their updated, detailed proposals. Events at the village hall and online will be held. It seeks views on how the airport plans to manage the environmental, infrastructural, and community impacts of the expansion. This includes their mitigation strategies for noise, traffic, and air quality, as well as their proposed compensation schemes.
C) Why It Is Crucial to Respond
If we stay silent, Heathrow and the government will assume we accept these plans. We do not.
Responding to the consultation is the only way to officially register our demands to mitigate the local impacts and legally force Heathrow to address our concerns. If the expansion is designated as Critical National Infrastructure for the benefit of the whole country, our village should not have to bear the financial, physical, and emotional costs alone. High response numbers from Stanwell Moor will give our local council the ammunition they need to fight for our rights.

D) Key Demands For Stanwell Moor
When you fill out your consultation response, it is vital that we are all unified in our demands. Make sure to include these key points specifically for Stanwell Moor:
- Demand Compensation: We must demand the right to compensation for the right to move. Anyone in the village who wishes to sell their home to escape the blight should be guaranteed a buyout at 25% over market value, plus moving costs.
- Challenge the Noise “Lock-In”: Do not accept “average” noise metrics, which do not reflect our daily reality. Demand a legally binding night flight ban (e.g., 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM) and insist on predictable runway respite periods to protect our sleep and mental health.
- Stop the Traffic Gridlock: Demand a strict “No Increase in Airport-Related Road Traffic” guarantee. Oppose the 25,000-space car park that will paralyse Stanwell Moor Road. Insist that Heathrow funds localised mitigation, such as residential parking permit schemes and traffic-calming measures to stop our village from becoming an airport rat-run.
- Hyper-Local Air Quality Safeguards: Demand air quality monitors placed directly inside Stanwell Moor with a legally binding “trigger clause.” If pollution breaches legal limits, airport capacity and growth must be automatically capped until the air is safe again.
- Protect Our Green Spaces: Insist on the strict protection of Staines Moor (an SSSI) and demand that there are no adverse impacts to the local biodiversity of the River Colne.
E) What Happens After the Consultation Closes?
Once the consultation closes on 22 December 2026, Heathrow must collate, review, and legally consider all the feedback received.
They will use this to refine their final plans before submitting their Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the Planning Inspectorate (likely in 2027). The Inspectorate will then conduct a rigorous public examination of the plans—where our consultation responses will serve as vital evidence—before making a recommendation to the Government. A final decision on whether the third runway can be built is targeted for around 2029.
