Stop Lorry EV Charging in our Village
The Association is supporting the campaign by residents to stop the development of an electric van and lorry charging station in the village. It is sited by homes and will blight the village with commercial traffic 24 hours 7 days a week. The campaign has mobilised the village through a petition.
LEAP24 offer “ultra rapid charging stations for vans and lorries” – they are not for cars. LEAP24 have purchased a parcel of land by the Stanwell Moor village sign to install charging stations. Whilst there is no question of the value of having a network of electric car and lorry charging stations, targeting a village, a residential location is wrong. There are other suitable locations around the airport – fuel stations and industrial estates for instance.
We call upon Spelthorne Council, Borough and County Councillors and the MP to use your influence to protect the village from the blight that this proposed charging station would bring to the village.
The Association objects to the installation of an EV charging station. There will be vans coming from outside the village 24 hours a day using the charging facility. They will queue to use it, slam doors and be talking outside homes. The site is by residential housing so highly inappropriate location. It will bring all the ASB issues, litter, poo and pee bags, and bottles, abuse to residents. It will reduce the value of our homes.
The land includes a manhole to the sewer that runs alongside the houses on Hithermoor – this needs to be kept accessible – would LEAP24 guarantee that? The location is at a T junction with Hithermoor and Horton Road – lorries turning will raise the risk of accidents.
Whilst the covenant does not permit construction on the land that may not stop the company finding other ways to invest in their purchase of the land, such as through “permitted development.” So we do need to gain the support of councillors and Planning Team at Spelthorne Borough Council to ensure they are aware the village is united against this proposed development and with good reason.
