As a member of the The Heathrow Noise and Airspace Community Forum (NACF) SMRA receive updates on matters such as runway resurfacing. The good news about Heathrow Runway Resurfacing is that the Southern Runway resurfacing work is now complete. The work is now moving to the Northern runway which will impact Stanwell Moor with temporary changes to the runway alternation schedule.
Heathrow Airport resurfaces its runways approximately every ten years. This was last carried out in 2013. Because Heathrow is so busy they do this work at night, so they have to make changes to their night-time runway alternation pattern.
They finished resurfacing their southern runway in October 2024 and are currently in the process of completing the taxiways connecting to the runway. On 23 March they will switch to the northern runway, starting with the taxiways and entry/exit points before resurfacing the main runway. This work is expected to be complete by June 2026.
The impact for Stanwell Moor will be with the temporary changes to the operation of the runways with the following pattern during the resurfacing works:
- For five nights a week (from Sunday evening to Friday morning), all flights will use a single runway between approximately 10:30pm and 6am. At the moment this is the northern runway, but from 23 March it will be the southern runway.
- For two nights a week (from Friday evening to Sunday morning), runway alternation will operate as normal, following their published runway alternation schedule.
Their runway alternation schedule is available to download from their website here. They also provide regular updates on their Runway Resurfacing page and their @HeathrowRunways X channel.
