Heathrow Airport has announced investment for 2026. It intends to spend £1.3 billion on capital investment. It has also committed funding for the planning application for the third runway expansion.
The Airport will be a revamp to Terminal 4 and a new baggage system for Terminal 2.
The Government has set a timetable to secure planning permission for the third runway expansion by 2029.
The next steps for the third runway involve navigation through regulatory and policy frameworks in 2026. In the Summer the DFT will published the draft Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS). In the Autumn Parliament will be asked to vote on the final Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS) – this decision will lead to the Development Consent Order (DCO) required by 2029 the – planning framework for the Airport’s project. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will decide on the long-term regulatory model for enabling private investment. This is important for Heathrow to gain clarity from the CAA on recovering early costs.
Heathrow Airport aim to run its first flights from the third runway within a decade.
