On 22nd July Spelthorne Borough Council Planning Committee approved the planning application for The Vineries. The proposal is to demolish the existing building for the erection of a building with replacement of the existing hardstanding. The works would involve parking, refuse storage and landscaping.
On 13 January 2026 Stanwell Moor Community Watch campaigned with residents to object against the planning application. Over 30 objections from local residents were received by Spelthorne Council. Residents complained of harm to the Green Belt, traffic, industrialisation, noise and lighting, pollution, and flooding.
The committee approved the application in full albeit with a long list of conditions. The committee approved the application with only minimal amendments to the conditions. Councillor Button spoke on behalf of the village. After a long debate all the members of the committee bar Councillor Beattie approved the recommendation for approval from the officers.
It transpires that the Vineries is no longer just “green belt” but is also “grey belt.” This was critical in the recommendation to approve the application in that it made it difficult to reject.Concerns about potential flooding, noise, and traffic were discussed with the officer explaining how the recommended conditions addressed them. In other words, none of the concerns were considered to be deal breakers. The doubling in the size of the warehouse was not considered an issue as the height was (two storey) was acceptable.
Although a planning application was dismissed in 2022 the change of the designation to grey belt meant that the partial redevelopment of the site is permitted.
There are a long list of conditions addressing the risk of flooding, traffic and noise.
