On 11 August, we attended the latest Local Community Forum hosted by Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL). These meetings provide a platform for neighbouring communities to hold airport operators to account, stay ahead of planning developments, and raise concerns that directly affect our village.
Here is a breakdown of the key topics discussed, what they mean for Stanwell Moor, and what we are keeping a close watch on.
1. Airport Policing & Unauthorised Meet & Greet
Issues around rogue “Meet and Greet” parking operators across the local area have been relatively quiet recently, but enforcement remains necessary. Police highlighted that the primary challenge remains one specific offending operator currently trading under four different company names. Local Hotspots known to have been used reputedly include The Vineries, where an unauthorised Meet and Greet business is suspected to be operating. Meet and Greets still operate in our village and residents to report suspicious commercial parking activity or vehicle drop-offs.
2. Heathrow Expansion & “Your Area” Documents
Neighbourhood groups have now been established around the airport perimeter in connection with the ongoing expansion proposals. Advising HAL on the preparation of the Your Area” Documentation is central task for these neighbourhood groups. This includes in improving the quality of the maps and plans. The documents remain in the very early stages, and substantial localised data is not yet available. We will scrutinise these closely once detailed village-level information is published.
3. The Wider Expansion Landscape (Draft HENPS)
The Government is currently consulting on the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement (HENPS), which formally designates Heathrow as Critical National Growth Infrastructure. Key points discussed were regarding the scheme led by Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL). There is also the independent Heathrow West proposal.
HAL emphasised that its plan is privately funded, citing Government forecasts of 60,000 new jobs and £40 billion in economic growth, alongside claims of a 50% boost to air freight/trade. While HAL pitches nationwide economic growth and jobs, our focus remains on what a 50% increase in trade and flight capacity means on the ground: increased surface traffic, freight movements, air quality degradation, and severe noise pressure right on our doorstep.
4. Local Operational News & Terminal 4 Upgrades
Work has commenced on a major “front door” upgrade at neighbouring Terminal 4. The project includes a modernised check-in hall, a larger multi-storey car park, and reconfigured road access aimed at reducing terminal forecourt congestion
Due to ongoing geopolitical issues in the Middle East, HAL has redirected capacity toward North American routes (capitalising on the 2026 FIFA World Cup) and Asia-Pacific markets. Despite these route adjustments boosting airport revenues, HAL maintains that Heathrow is “effectively full”, which forms the core of their push for new runway capacity.
5. Apprenticeships & Skills Opportunities
Heathrow provided an update on its airport-wide skills programme. There are approximately 500 apprentices active across the airport ecosystem. Engineering and construction represent the two largest apprenticeship recruitment streams, alongside roles in aviation retail and ground handling. Placements are coordinated through the airport Job Academy in conjunction with on-site suppliers. Support is also available for university graduates and existing airport staff seeking upskilling opportunities.
6. Community Rangers & Local Volunteering
HAL’s Community Rangers and employee volunteering schemes continue to support local community spaces. Stanwell Moor Village Hall remains included among the local venues supported by airport colleague volunteering initiatives. Volunteering with litter picking also took place.
Standing up for Stanwell Moor
Stanwell Moor Community Watch will continue to monitor the progress of the neighbourhood group, meet and greets and scrutinise the consultation documents under the draft HENPS. A post on responding to HENPS will follow.
